Jericho
have you watched this show? if not, let me give you the rundown.
the show focuses on a small town in Kansas, Jericho, and what happens in that town when the United States gets bombed. the first time i watched this show i had chills on my arms because it seemed so real and probable. everyone is going about there business and all of the sudden they see a mushroom cloud in the distance which turns out to be in Denver, Colorado. The power goes out and everyone is scratching their heads trying to figure out what is happening. one kid is listening to an answering machine message from his parents who are in Atlanta. in the middle of the message, you can hear an explosion and the message stops, so you know that there was another bomb dropped in Atlanta. soon after the explosions, they realize that these were probably nuclear so they all decided it would be a good idea to get underground before the rains came. people from surrounding towns were not so fortunate, so you get to see the effects of radiation on some people.
one mysterious character in Jericho has various tools like computers and radios and access to information that no one else in the town has...so it makes you wonder if he is a good guy or a bad guy...turns out that he works for the FBI, so he's alright. so the town goes without electricity for a day or two when the power comes back on and the town celebrates...soon after, they see some rockets fly over which send an EMP over the area. an EMP is an Electronic Magnetic Pulse. this spells disaster for anything that has a circuit board making almost everything unusable. no electricity and no cars. the only cars that make it are the old ones that don't have computers. the FBI guy has some gadgets that are built to withstand EMP's, so he's good to go.
so now the show is all about how they survive all that has happened. did i mention that D.C. was totally wiped out? well, you can imagine what people are beginning to realize. there's no government telling them what to do and no leadership to protect them. no one knows what will happen one day to the next. mercinaries are going from town to town claiming they are with the US government as they steal from people. the farms are becoming more important as people realize that food supplies will run out. money is hard to get so people are trading things for food or pesticides. it's like they are starting all over because the technologies that were there only weeks ago are gone and they don't have the tools or skills to fix them.
can you imagine what this must be like? granted, they're reaching a little with all of this because i don't think we would survive this long without more help. oh and they don't ever seem to run out of candles after about a month's time or more. i would not know how to function. many people just sit around and drink all day while others are out searching through nearby towns for supplies. as they go to these other towns, they encounter people that have guns and are defending their town. i guess this show is a lot like "Lost"...i have never really sat down to watch an episode, but from what i can tell these people are stranded and they seem to deal with some of the same issues of food and people interaction. the scary thing about Jericho is that we live in a world where this could happen in the not so distant future...we're not quite sure how stable some of the other world leaders are...and we don't know who we can trust anymore. is it time to get a gun to keep in the house? all of the people in Jericho seem to have one. next week's episode of Jericho has some interesting stuff as they receive help from some other countries, but no one is still sure what is going on...
